An exceptional archival John Galliano sheer mesh top from the designer's Spring/Summer 2006 collection.
Cut from fine ivory stretch mesh in a body-skimming long-sleeve silhouette, the top is printed with an elaborate tattoo composition drawing on Japanese irezumi and Tibetan Buddhist imagery. A seated Manjushri figure sits at the centre of the chest — golden-bodied and crowned, sword raised, framed by a jade halo — surrounded by peonies, chrysanthemums and stylised cloud forms that continue down both sleeves in deep blue, coral, jade and gold. The Om symbol appears at the back.
The print is placed to read as body art rather than as a graphic on cloth: against skin, the sheer mesh makes the imagery appear tattooed rather than worn. It is a device Galliano returned to across his career, and one of its most striking expressions.

A note on the fit. Technically a menswear piece, which is why it runs more openly than the S on the label suggests. The cut is forgiving and the mesh has good stretch, so it suits a wider range than most pieces here — an XS through to an L, sitting close to the body. Please go by the measurements below rather than the size on the label.
Handling. Fine mesh snags easily and a pull cannot be repaired invisibly, so rings, watches, bracelets and long nails need to come off before it goes on, and it should be eased on rather than tugged.
Measurements — taken flat and unstretched, in centimetres. Chest is a half measurement — double it for the full way round. The mesh has a lot of give, so it will go well beyond these figures.

Care while on loan
Clips, tape and pinning into seam allowance only. No pins through the face of the fabric, no stitching, no alterations. Keep fake tan, body makeup and heavy fragrance off the cloth. No smoking, eating or drinking while it's on. Please don't wash, spot-clean, steam or dry-clean anything — I handle all the cleaning myself, and it's already covered in your loan fee. Return it in the garment bag it arrived in.
Shipping and returns
Sent tracked and insured anywhere in Australia, with a prepaid return label included in your loan fee. Lodge it over the counter on or before your return date and send me the tracking number. A $50 per day late fee applies after that. Collection in person isn't available. International loans are arranged case by case.
How a loan works
Four days, for photography only — not events. Apply with your shoot dates and I'll confirm availability, then send you the Archival Loan Agreement and an invoice for the loan fee and damage cover. Where a bond applies it's paid by bank transfer, and if you've borrowed from me before it's waived.
